Running for breast cancer awareness
This Saturday, October 5, the inaugural Pink Pumpkin Run will debut at 8 a.m. in front of the Huff Athletic Center.
For this breast cancer awareness event, Women in Business, Blue Key Honor Society, and the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity have come together to take up the responsibilities for organizing this event for the Monmouth community. Along with these three organizations, OSF family medical center has also partnered with these organizations.
With October representing Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Pink Pumpkin 5k hopes to bring support for people diagnosed with breast cancer and their loved ones affected.
Political economy and commerce professor Shanna Bruer stated that “With one in eight women diagnosed with this life-changing disease, we see a prolific need for services here in Monmouth and the surrounding community”.
With breast cancer impacting many people of Monmouth and the surrounding community, these campus organizations and OSF Family Medical Center have hopes that the Pink Pumpkin 5k will bring more awareness for breast cancer and aid for those affected by this impactful disease. Along with spreading awareness, OSF plans to donate and keep all proceeds of the event local in hopes to help local people affected by breast cancer.
