Students from Organizational Communication, taught by Dr. Shweta Arpit Srivastava, hosted creative events last week for students on campus to enjoy. This assignment challenged students to work collaboratively in teams to create and execute an event that improves communication amongst students on campus. Students in the class were split into two teams and were tasked to create an event that was fundraising, engagement, or promotional-focused.
One team, Organized Chaos, held “Mario Kart Mayhem!”. This was an interactive night designed to get students laughing, connecting, and racing around the track. Group members Emi Bigham, Gary Bonifer, Neilly Cole, and Riley King held the event on October 22nd in CSB 100. All students were welcome to come and hang out, eat some popcorn, and play a few rounds of this beloved game. This event was created with a goal in mind: creating a space that allows students who don’t normally talk to each other to engage collaboratively.

“We hosted this event to bring students together for a relaxing and fun evening, which was much needed during the busy weeks between midterms and homecoming,” said Neilly. “Mario Kart with snacks is also such a nostalgic experience, so I hope people felt at home.”
The second group, Frozen Moments, hosted an engagement event centered around togetherness and creating memories. Their event invited students to stop by for a mini photoshoot and enjoy a frozen treat. Students could pose solo or with friends for photos taken by group member Nayeli Perez. Other group members included Kaytlynn Taylor, Hoth Schremser, and Taylor Whitaker. Their event aimed to create memories that would last a lifetime.
Both teams succeeded in creating events that engaged students and strengthened the campus community. Through this process, they demonstrated how effective communication can bring people together.
