As you may have heard, iCarly is now on Netflix, which means many of us are now rewatching a childhood favorite TV show. Victorious is also on Netflix, along with Sam & Cat. Nickelodeon seems to be teaming up with Netflix to bring our favorite shows to its platform, but remember that Hulu also has a fair share of the throwback shows we love.
They managed to snag Drake & Josh, which is another wildly popular Nickelodeon show, along with Rugrats and Hey Arnold! For those who do not have Hulu, it may seem like you’re missing half the shows. Unlike Disney, who launched Disney+ as the exclusive streaming platform for Disney shows, Nickelodeon does not seem to have plans to launch a Nickelodeon+ or exclusive platform for themselves. Instead, they are slowly adding their lineup to existing streaming services.
Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra have been available on Netflix for some time now, and those two additions have made Netflix a fan favorite for those of us who grew up watching Avatar. As for iCarly, it seems like many of us have been waiting for years to be able to rewatch the show, though it was available on the Nickelodeon website prior to its Netflix release.
This wave of Nickelodeon shows being added to Netflix, Hulu and Prime Video begs the question of if exclusive brand streaming services are a viable option for companies at this time. If Nickelodeon, one of the largest children’s media companies, is refraining from creating their own streaming platform, does that mean other companies will follow suit?
As for now, shows are scattered across the most popular streaming services, with Spongebob being available on Prime Video (which is a shame since it could easily be on Netflix). What do you think of the recent additions to Netflix and Hulu? Let us know on Twitter.
