Welcome to Music on Repeat: a list of music that has been on my personal replay list recently. These songs are as follows:
Cabu – After 9 Ft. Maribelle: Easily one of the better dance songs I’ve heard in a good minute. Smooth and playful production, clear and enthralling vocals, and good structure.
Kanye West – Jesus Is Lord (Camoufly Remix): Can we replace Kanye West’s album version of “Jesus Is Lord” with this version? Please?
Gesafellstein – Lost In The Fire Ft. The Weeknd (Nick Bike Adam & Doubleyou Remix): The Weeknd’s vocals are The Weeknd’s vocals: more often than not, they’re a hit. With this remix though, the producers created a more trappy, EDM-like hybrid of the original, crafting a well-defined piece of synth-heavy electronic music.
Bbno$ & Y2k– Lalala Ft. Enrique Iglesias, Carly Rae Jepsen (Remix): I’m not sure if I may or may not have an issue for liking this.
Prince Swanny – Stacking: Sonically, the track is a mixture of hip hop and dancehall, employing some standard glitching hi-hats and trap drums, as well as a dark piano chord progression. Moreover, the steel pan interwoven into the song adds a nice layer of appeal to the song overall.
Funsho – Dis Ting Ft. King Kanja: A nice mix of RnB and dancehall, “Dis Ting” features some sweet vocals from the lead singer, imploring a significant other to be with him in a lifelong relationship. It’s a good marriage of sugary, simple guitar chord licks, sparse but strong bass, and a minimalist drumbeat.
Coldplay – Orphans: Who knew they were still alive? Until recently, I didn’t, but oh, what a wonderful experience it was to listen to “Orphans.” The guitar strumming is crisp, joyful, and uplifting; the drum groove is fairly tight and driving, and the vocals are as endearing as ever.
The Technicolors – Space Cadet: An older piece of indie that was too good to pass up on after first listen. It’s so bittersweet with its sparse guitar playing and melancholic lyrics, and dreamy, glistening synth arpeggios add a cutesy yet slightly mysterious feel to the song as well. Some soaring choral vocals only emphasize the bitter-sweetness and melancholy.
Honorable Mentions:
OMG OMG OMG: Still Woozy – Lucy Ft. Odie: This song is that pleasant feeling of hoping that the person you desperately like likes you back, in the same way. Simultaneously, it’s also that split-second feeling of euphoria and anticipation for all the moments that you’ll share with a loved one after you confess to each other under a warm summer night, filled with stars and a full moon.
God, why does this exist: Drastic – I Don’t Care (Rude Boy Remix): I already have nightmares of the original cut of “I Don’t Care” ... Why is it back to haunt me? What did I do wrong? I’ll forever wonder, but please put this song in the grave where it belongs.
