On Friday, October 30th, the Monmouth College Wind Ensemble performed on stage, playing many of the songs several different conductors rather than the director conducting the entire concert all the way through.
Evan Reed, a music major and trumpet player, said “This concert was put on to bring people together.” He hopes people can see greatness in music by an ensemble of young musicians. Reed conducted the performance of Movement IV of People Who Live in Glass Houses by John Sousa: The Convention of the Cordials. “I think that was definitely my, and then the band’s best run of the movement,” said Reed. “A lot of the people in the audience loved it as it was a fit finisher for the awards celebration of John Sousa.”
Also serving as ensemble president, he oversees activities and plans many of the events the ensemble engages in. “There’s only so much I can do because we’re student-led like any other organization on campus, but I love it. I love being able to work with other groups like Greek life, chorale, Tartan Threads, and people like them.”
