Monet? You mean Takahashi, right?

Natalie Takahashi is the Artist of the week for this issue of The Courier! Here is a little Q&A to get to know her (and her art work) a little more!

Q: What year are you? A: I’m a sophomore.

Q: Where are you from? A: Lisle, IL.

Q: When did you first get into creating art? A: For as long as I can remember I’ve always loved it.

Q: What is your favorite work that you’ve made? A: Some of my acrylic paintings.

Q: What is your favorite work made by someone else? A: I’m a big Claude Monet fan.

Q: What is something you’ve always wanted to make? A: Digital art.

Q: What inspires you most? A: Other people’s ideas.

Q: What do you want to do with your life and how does what your art play into that? A: I want to be a graphic designer and want to advertise and show off my work.

Q: What else do you enjoy doing on and off campus? A: “In my free time at home naturally I like painting or drawing. I also have a pit bull, Bambi, who I take on walks and really just enjoy time around my friends and family. Here at Monmouth it’s almost the same as I love being social and hanging out with my friends and working on all my assignments for my art classes.”

Here are a couple pieces of Takahaskis’ work.

(Left picture below) Her inspiration: Takahashi explained this project was all about her family heritage, “Right around the time the project was assigned, my grandpa (Papa) was diagnosed with cancer. He loved to cook more than anything and obviously being Japanese, my family loves sushi. The painting was a tribute to him and his favorite food.”

(Right picture below) Her inspiration: “It was sort of an idea that just came to me and I knew it could look pretty cool if I could execute it,” she explained. This was Takahashis’ final that was to be comprised of a certain number of elements and principals that she had been practicing all semester long.
