ASAP and Scots Student Senate teamed up Friday, Oct. 3, for mini golf in the Hewes Library. Students were invited to bring their own clubs, the catch being the club could not be a golf club. Some used items like shoes or water bottles, while junior Collin Heslin took things a step further by using his fraternity’s composite posterboard.
The course featured nine holes, each designed by a different student organization. According to Scots Student Senate Programming Director Zack Manley, the idea started as a lighthearted conversation but quickly turned into a real event. “Last year, Sarah and I joked about turning the library into something for the whole campus. This year, I brought it up again, and everyone in the Senate was on board. From there, we made it happen,” Manley said.

The goal was to promote the library as a space for both studying and social events.
“It also gave the other orgs a chance to show off their creativity, like the Outdoor Society and the Running Club,” said Manley. “They’re two of the newest organizations, and both had great setups and interest signups.”
Setup for the event took around 90 minutes, and students had the chance to test the holes before the competition began. Manley said the turnout of around 45 students exceeded expectations, especially for a Friday night before fall break. “I was expecting way less of a turnout,” he said. “We were very happy with how many people showed up.”
ASAP Active Hours Chair Zay Kemp said the event brought an energy to the library that students don’t usually see. “Usually, the library is kind of quiet and studious,” Kemp said. “Today it felt lively. A lot of people were here having fun, I even saw people I’ve never seen in the library before.” Kemp also named the Outdoor Society’s hole as his favorite. “They had trees, water, and sand. It was the most creative one,” he said. “You could tell they put a lot of time and effort into it.”
