The men’s and women’s track and field teams travelled to Bloomington, Illinois on February 5 to compete in the Bob Keck Invitational hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University and featuring teams from all three NCAA divisions.
Senior Jordan Peckham came out victorious in the women’s 400 meter race with a season best time of 1:00.02, the best time thus far this season in the Midwest Conference and the fortieth best time nationally. She also took third place in the 200 meter race, leading the conference in that event as well and ranking twentieth nationally. Finishing up with yet another Midwest Conference best time, Peckham finished her individual events with a season best of 7.94 in the 60 meter dash. The Scots’ other event winner for the day was junior Reed Wilson who cleared 4.85 meters in the pole vault to win the event by six inches. So far this season, Wilson has won the event at every meet the team has attended. Senior Kara Fisher ran a season best time of 2:29.93 in the 800 meter race, a time bettered by one other member of the Midwest Conference prior to Saturday, and senior Linsey Turner also matched her season high in the pole vault at 3.05 meters.
On the field side of competition, senior Kareema Lawal threw a season best in the weight throw with a finishing length of 15.86 meters, a far enough throw to put her in the third place spot and moving her to having the second best throw in the Midwest Conference this season. Sophomore Caleb Toberman threw a career best in the weight throw on the men’s side, also finishing in third place with a length of 15.24. Senior Andy Bird also had a weight throw of 15.24 meters but was edged out of the third place spot by Toberman because Toberman had a second longest throw of 15.02 meters to Bird’s 14.94 meters.Bird also finished seventh in the shot put with a season best throw of 13.85, ranking second in the Midwest Conference this season. Freshman Maddie Boley had a career best throw in the shot put of 11.83 meters as well, placing her sixth overall and third in the conference.
The Scots will compete in their only home meet of the indoor season on Friday, February 11 at 5:00 pm.
