The visiting Beloit Buccaneers earned three points to start their conference campaign with a decisive 5-1 win over Monmouth at Peacock Park this past Saturday.
Goals by Benjamin Eilbes in the 17th minute, Matteo Jijon in the 30th, and Eziah Hernandez in the 39th minute gave Beloit a comfortable 3-0 lead after 45 minutes. Hernandez scored again in the 54th to grow the Beloit lead to 4-0. However, senior forward Owen Murray found the back of the net off an assist from Parker Davis in the 57th to cut the deficit to 4-1, but the Bucs found insurance five minutes later off an own goal.
Despite the lopsided score, the game was relatively even statistically. Beloit won the shots battle by a very slim margin, 15-14 (7-4), with more shots finding the back of the net. Luis Villa recorded three saves in those 90 minutes, and so did Beloit keeper David Staats. The Bucs also won the corner kicks battle 7-5.
