After their home opener against the University of Dubuque, the Scots quickly refocused their attention on the back-to-back games of the weekend. Friday featured a match against North Central University with a comprehensive 4-0 win. Two goals by Junior Alvaro Alvarez ’21, as well as goals from returner Cadan Glattback ’20 and newcomer Nico Esparon ’22 rounding out a fairly complete day for the team with only 2 shots allowed the entire game.
Monmouth returned to Coe the next day to take on Lakeland University. Unlike the day before, the Scots struggled to get a foothold in the game but managed to find a way coming out 3-1 winners against a competitive opponent. Senior Duh Thang ’20 was lethal throughout, registering two goals as well as a first collegiate goal for Freshman Kai Jones ’23. Monmouth Freshman Goalkeeper Marcos Garibay ’23 held firm with several crucial saves to keep the momentum with the Scots.
Up next for the Scots is a Saturday home game against Westminster College.
