Last season came to a disappointing end for the Monmouth College Men’s Lacrosse team. Due to COVID-19 shutting down the season last year the men’s lacrosse team was unable to finish the season that got off to a strong start. The team started the season 4-2 before the season was shut down. The season got off to a good start with an eight to seven win over Augustana College, a team they had never beaten before, and the team was looking to make a deep run into the playoffs.
The team graduated eight seniors including all three of their starting defensemen who lead all of NCAA Division Three in man down defense. Junior midfielder Mason Sanford stated that “We did lose a lot of seniors,” said Mason Sanford, Junior midfielder. “… so I am hoping that the remaining players that we have step up to the plate. We got a lot of boys that have a lot of potential and they gotta step up.”
The Midwest Lacrosse Conference looks a little different this year than it did last year so it has opened up a bit for a few teams to try to take the crown. The team seems pretty confident going into this year, “I hope that everyone is hitting the wall a lot and working on their stick skills,” said sophomore attackman LH Bond. “I also hope that everyone is running so that we are all more conditioned than we were last year. If we do those two things I expect us to win a conference championship.”
