The Lake Forest Foresters traveled to Monmouth, IL on Saturday as they faced the Fighting Scots. Monmouth ran the game early and often as they took down the Foresters with a final score of 86-76. Lake Forest went on a run in the second half nearly tying the game, but the Scots prevailed and never lost the lead.
The Scots put up 41 points in the first half, outshooting Lake Forest’s 31 points. There were key performances by Justin Batterton and DJ Swift. Batterton had a total of 29 points in the 38 minutes of playtime. Smith tallied 19 points in his 39 minutes. Tyler Houston and Dee Hyler also stepped up, scoring a combined 17 points. Altogether, the Scots sunk 60% of their field goals and 42% of shots behind the ark.
Lake Forest brought the score within one point, but the Scots’ defense was able to get it done. Tyler Houston led the team in rebounds on the day with a total of ten. DJ Swift and Justin Batterton each grabbed four rebounds and Trever Davis got three. Houston just got his second double-double of the month with ten points and ten rebounds.
Monmouth left today to head to Ripon for a two-game road trip. Tip-off is tonight at 5:30 in Ripon, Wisconsin. The Scots will then travel to Appleton, Wisconsin to play Lawrence University on Saturday with a 1 PM tip-off. They will then get a short recovery until they host Cornell College on Wednesday. The Scots record is now 12-4 and they plan to extend their current seven-game win streak.
