Last week, the men’s basketball season tipped off in Glennie Gymnasium and started with a pair of impressive wins.
The Fighting Scots opened with back-to-back games against the Red Devils of Eureka College on Friday and then against the Highlanders of MacMurray College on Saturday.
In the opening game, the Scots started slow and did not lead until late in the first half. They led by eight at the halftime break.
The second half was a different story, as the Scots hit the ground running, scoring 45 points in the half en route to an 83-71 win.
Senior forward Will Carius led the Scots in scoring with 20 points and 17 rebounds, giving him his first double-double on the season. Junior guard DJ Swift scored 19 points and grabbed seven boards.
On Saturday, the Scots faced off against MacMurray College in Glennie Gymnasium. Monmouth dominated from tip-off, shooting 48% in the first half and led by 16 going into the halftime break.
The second half was once again a display of dominance over the Highlanders as the Scots went on to win 86-75. Monmouth was led by Carius’ 21 points and 12 rebounds and Swift’s 12 points.
The Scots travel to Whitewater, Wisconsin, on Friday to play the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks. The Scots fell to the Warhawks at home last season 83-55. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
