The Monmouth men’s basketball team continued their winning ways, using a second-half surge to swipe an 83-66 victory over the visiting Cornell Rams in Glennie Gym on Tuesday night. With this win, the Scots cruise to 15-4 overall while maintaining a spotless 10-0 record in conference play and staying at the top of the league table. Monmouth also completed a series sweep of the rams, having won the first meeting in Mount Vernon on January 3rd, 70-67.
The first 20 minutes saw both teams evenly matched with three ties and seven lead changes throughout that span, and the two teams were tied at 38-38 heading into the locker room. In the last five minutes, the Scots propelled to a 75-57 lead with 4:11 to go, then shut the door on the rams as they secured another conference victory.
Sophomores Cameron Thomas and Zay Brown led the Scots in scoring, chipping in 18 points each. Senior Max Maring was close behind with 15 points, followed by senior Kyle Taylor with eight. Monmouth was also 32-65 on field goals, shooting 44% from three-point range, and went 72.7% from the charity stripe Tuesday evening.
