Sunday, September 8, Monmouth College Admissions and the athletics department partnered for a Meet Monmouth: Athletics. Monmouth College Admissions staff and coaches host this event twice a year for potential student-athletes to get a first look at campus life and involvement.
“We had students representing almost every sports team on campus,” said Director of Enrollment Visits and Events Michelle Carlson. “Football, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s track and cross country, volleyball, men’s golf, and women’s soccer all had students visiting to check out the sports teams and the atmosphere on campus. This visit day followed a very successful recruiting day for Monmouth football. Coach Braun and his team welcomed nearly 50 prospective students for a campus visit during Saturday night’s football game.”
Prospective students received an in-depth tour of Monmouth’s athletic facilities; personalized group campus tours given by Admissions Scot Ambassadors; individual conversations with coaches and other prospective players; a chance to meet Monmouth’s new president, Dr. Patricia Draves; and a small academic fair with over 30 staff and faculty representatives.
The Monmouth College Pep Band played as students arrived on campus to get their energy up before the day started. “During registration, multiple students mentioned how they were already feeling the hype from our band. It’s a great way to show students the kind of energy and community they can expect at Monmouth,” said Carlson.
Michelle DeCoud, Head Women's Basketball Coach, welcomed multiple potential athletes during Sunday’s event. “It's important for us to have these opportunities to represent our program well and engage with potential student-athletes,” said Decoud. “It brings interested prospective students to campus to get a meaningful look at what life here could be like for them.”
Monmouth will host another Athletics visit day on April 28th. Last spring’s event hosted over 100 potential student-athletes.
