Last weekend, Bears QB Mitch Trubisky led one of the most exciting comebacks in recent Bears history, as Chicago defeated the Detroit Lions by a score of 27-23. Many fans were unsure whether Trubisky should get the start on week 1, or if coach Matt Nagy should opt for Super Bowl champion Nick Foles. Clearly, Nagy made the correct choice. After shaking off a lot of rust from simply not playing football for over half a year, Trubisky came alive in the 4th quarter, throwing three touchdown passes to lift the Bears from a 23-6 deficit. One clear takeaway from this game is the fact that once the Bears’ coaching staff trusted Trubisky enough to open up the playbook and throw the ball downfield, he was at his best. This game was a major step in the right direction for Trubisky’s continued development, and it is clear that the addition of Foles as backup motivated him to perform after a rough 2019 season. With the Bears facing a very winnable game this Sunday against the Giants, don’t be surprised if Trubisky fires on all cylinders for over 300 yards passing and lifts Chicago to 2-0.
