On Saturday, October 5, Monmouth College inducted three standout Scots athletes into the M Club Hall of Fame. The ceremony opened Saturday’s Homecoming festivities.
The ceremony welcomed record-setting goalkeeper Samantha Barranco ’14 graduate; All-American thrower Allison Devor ’13; and Beau Hellman, a versatile baseball player for the Scots.
Barranco, a Highland Park High School graduate, made an immediate impact when she stepped on the soccer field her freshman year. She earned Defensive Player of the Year, and her first of four first-team All-MWC honors. The goalie continued to shine in her junior and senior seasons as she earned All-North Region honors and led the team to the 2013 Midwest Conference title game. Barranco finished her college career playing a total of 6,656 minutes, with an .815 save percentage, 38 victories, and 27 shutouts¾all school goalkeeping records.
All-American and two-time national runner-up Allison Devor set Monmouth’s hammer throw record at 190 feet, 10 inches during the 2013 Division 3 NCAA Track and Field Championships. Along with hammer throw, Devor participated in the weight at Monmouth. She posted nine of the 10 marks in school history and was top 10 among Scots’ performers on shot put and discus; she ranked second in the outdoor shot put. In her four years Devor claimed eight All-American honors and nine titles at Midwest Conference meets.
The Scots’ baseball team had Beau Hellman, the South’s Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, when they won its third straight MWC South Division title in 2003. Hellman was a first-team All-South pick every year. On top of pitching, he was a standout in the infield, playing shortstop and second base. Hellman is ranked top 10 in the Scots’ record books for runs, assists, games, and at-bats.
