A new year means new movies, or the continuation of something familiar. Settle into the year with the anticipation of these new releases.
The Bride! – March 6
If you’re a consumer of horror with a modern twist, “The Bride!” might suit your interests. The film takes great inspiration from Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel “Frankenstein.” Written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, “The Bride!” combines the Gothic classic and James Whale’s 1935 “Bride of Frankenstein” for an adventurous spin on Frankenstein’s monster lore.
Supergirl – June 26
Audiences first met Milly Alcock’s Supergirl at the end of “Superman,” crashing into the Fortress of Solitude after a bender. Kara Zor-El first appeared in DC comics in 1959, a rebellious teenager forced to come to terms with the death of her entire planet. The movie shares the same sentiment as Kara grapples with her grief, with continuous benders and bar fights. It’ll be interesting to see how her story unfolds this summer.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise of the Reaping – November 20
“Sunrise of the Reaping” is the fifth installment in the Hunger Games cinematic universe and the second prequel in the series. The story follows the well-known and beloved character, Haymitch Abernathy, and his involvement in the games. Suzanne Collins saw success with her first prequel, “Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” in 2023, and the upcoming cinematic release anticipates a similar fate.
