April 1st marked the second week of indoor co-ed volleyball. Six teams competed for Monmouth College stardom.
The regular season is relatively short, with each team playing three matches over the course of three weeks. Sets are played to 21, and teams must win two out of a possible three to secure a victory. After the regular season, the top four teams will compete in a single elimination tournament to crown a champion.
Muha Melvs are the returning champions and are off to a hot 2-0 start. Led by Gannon Greenman and Kendall Lewis they haven’t dropped a set yet.
Dunk and Dig look to right the ship going into week three after they dropped their first game, but they bounced back with a victory against ZBT. Melina Teunis, a key contributor to the squad, said: “We made significant strides from week to week and feel that we can use our height and athletic ability to overpower our opponents.”
Teunis’ team is composed of six players six feet tall or above, something that no other team has the luxury. While their hitting ability is a strength, Teunis said, “Our weakness is definitely digging the ball of strong attacks and making a good first pass to set up our attackers.”
Their next match is a pivotal one. “We all know the magnitude of our week 3 game, it’s pretty much if we win, we are in but if we don’t it’ll be tough,” said Teunis. Dunk and Dig’s next opponent is Ace Holes, with a 1-1 record and looking to make a run for the final four.
