Last Friday as a part of Homecoming, the Alumni Impact Award acknowledged members of the College community who brought remarkable distinction to their careers and have served the college well.
“We are really proud of this year’s selection who was selected from quite a number of nominations […] that’s become a more competitive group of individuals to be recognized in,” said Hannah Maher, Vice President for Development and College Relations.
Five awards were given during the event. Joel Hillison and Ed Wimp respectively received the Distinguished Alumnus and Distinguished Young Alumnus Awards. The Distinguished Service Award was given to Joan Wertz while the Mary Ann Thome Johnson family received the Family of the Year Award. Finally, Michelle Holschuh Simmons received the Hatch Award for Excellence in Teaching.
In addition, Karen Krueger (public servant), and Hiroyuki Fujita (High-tech industrialist) were inducted into the college’s Hall of Achievement. Karen Krueger, who came with her family and her three college roommates, graduated 50 years ago and works as a foreign service officer. “I am excited, honored and stunned to be here […] I think my career of public service has captured the attention; it shows something else, a different kind of career”.
