The Fighting Scots dove into the pool at Pepper Natatorium last Friday evening after being on a competition hiatus for nineteen months following the COVID-19 pandemic. New coach, Jake Dacus, saw his team cheering and supporting one another as they pushed for a victory against Knox College. The meet started off strong with a victory in the 200 Medley relay by the team of junior Jaidlyn Sellars, sophomore Katie Oberheu, senior Brooke McCormick, and junior Lauren Fulscher followed by another win in the men’s event with the relay team of freshman Finn VanDyke, sophomore Camden Schmidt, sophomore Tristan Kennon, and senior Tyler Davis. The night continued with the Scots winning nineteen of the twenty-five events of the evening. On the women’s side, McCormick won all three of her individual events (100 Butterfly, 500 Freestyle, 100 Individual Medley), Sellars won two (50 Backstroke, 100 Backstroke), Oberheu won two (50 Breaststroke, 100 Breaststroke), senior Marissa Logan took the 200 Freestyle, and Fulscher took the 50 Freestyle. On the men’s side, Schmidt took first place in three events (50 Breaststroke, 100 Breaststroke, 50 Butterfly) while Vandyke took first in the 50 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, and 50 Backstroke, and Davis (100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle) and Kennon (100 Butterfly, 100 Individual Medley) each took two events respectively. The night concluded with the Scots taking both the men’s and women’s 200 Freestyle relays with the teams of Fulscher, senior Skylar rapp, junior Ashling Stauton, and Sellars on the women’s side and Kennon, sophomore Brady Hild, Davis, and VanDyke on the men’s side. The meet finished with final scores of 177-54 on the women’s side and 113-29 on the men’s side, leaving the Scots victorious all around. The Scots hit the road for Homecoming next Saturday to dual against the Augustana Vikings in their first away meet.
