The Monmouth College Garden and Farm has had a lively year. The blueberry bushes were extremely active and we have much of the fruit left over from the season. The tomato plants overflowed like a waterfall, and we even have turnips overwintering to hopefully produce next year.
We also received some new friends, in the poultry form. That’s right, chickens! It is coming to the point in the season where things are winding down. However, we still have work to do – especially with the chickens, and prepping the fields for the winter.
We have learned that not many people are aware of the farm/garden. The garden is behind the apartment complexes, and the farm is on 12th Street. Both are great places to relax and spend time outside, especially in the beautiful, crisp autumn weather; the changing leaves are something to behold.
We want to hold events, possibly a bonfire, but we especially want people to be aware of the times they can come work on the farm, get outside, and learn more about food production.
