I enter Dahl Chapel a few minutes after 7pm Saturday, February 22, and Colorful Voices of Praise is already on stage, doing their thing. Everyone is dressed in shades of purple, black, and white, and it all looks really good.
Emcees Terrence Best and Nyasaina Kwamboka give us a warm welcome with bright, warm smiles before the mic is handed to CVoP President Tia Lofton, as she motions for a moment of silence in honor of lost loved ones, followed by a prayer.
The energy gets into full swing with a series of entertaining performances: a dance by Chazzity Short, loud songs of praise from the CVoP choir, a spoken word piece, and another dance. There’s still more energy to go around by the time the first round of Trivia comes around.
Touching song solos come rolling afterward, as well as more group dances, including a pleasantly surprise from King’s Kids, International Baptist Mission. These young girls went on stage and put on an impressive display of dance, maintaining the night’s spiritual, fervent vibe.
CVoP seems to outdo themselves as they lead closing songs, “You’re All I Need” and “The Blood Still Works,” with an even more impassioned, intense fire than before. The room was consumed by a joyful noise, and so was everyone in it.
It had passed the projected show duration of two hours, but I don’t think anyone cared. In between audible pants of breath and bottles of water, the show ended with acknowledgments and a heartfelt farewell of CVoP’s seniors as they re-delegated their new positions amongst other members. The entire show was an emotional rollercoaster, brimming with sensation, enthusiasm, talent, and zeal that could only be witnessed right there and then.
