Fighting scots men’s golf re-turned to Midwest play last week after their spring break trip to Arizona. Monmouth saw improved performances across the board in their second round of action at the Blackburn Invitational in Southern Illinois.
Sam Gillen earned the Scots only top ten finish as the junior claimed the tenth spot. The Monmouth- Roseville product cut his opening round 82 to a second round 78.
The largest round to round improvement came from senior Nate Monroe. Monroe rallied back from an 89 in round one to post a second round score of 77. The twelve-stroke improvement resulted in a 166 for the weekend.
In third, Braden Williams opened the weekend with an 87 and finished with a round two score of 90, good for a total of 177 for the tournament. Just behind Williams, Ben Dobberstein finished only three strokes behind. Dobberstein posted an 88 for round one and followed up that performance with a 92 to finish out the second day.
Mason Ely rounded out the weekend’s performances for the Scots. The senior had a challenging first round as he posted a 101 score. Ely cut 14-strokes the following day, shooting an 87 as he moved into the third scoring spot for round two.
Monmouth looks to take the round two momentum to the Wartburg Invitational this weekend.
