The women’s golf team almost had a record-breaking round this past weekend. On Saturday, the team shot a 325 at the Highland Classic in Rock Island, which is the second-lowest score on an 18-hole round in the program’s history. Senior Haley Hoekstra shot a 77, which is the second-best round of her career. Junior Mamie Ambrosch scored an 82 with a hole-in-one on 8. Sophomore Dani Freeman also scored an 82, and Sophomore Morgan Bemis rounded out the scores Saturday with an 84. Senior Jessi Haines had a non-scoring round of 94 on Saturday. The team finished in third place after Saturday’s performance. Also, Junior Kaniesha Whatley scored an 86 on Saturday. On Sunday, the team scored a 337 with a combined score of 662, the second-best 36-hole score in the women’s golf team history. Bemis led the team Sunday with an 81, a career-best and the sixth-best score in the program’s history. Bemis finished with a 165, placing 26th out of 70 golfers. Hoekstra finished Sunday with an 82 and scored a total of 159, which is the second-best score in Monmouth history. Hoekstra placed 13th out of 70 golfers. Ambrosch ended Sunday with an 86, putting her weekend total at 168. Freeman had an 88 Sunday, with a total of 170. Haines finished Sunday with a 102, and a total of 196. The team finished Sunday in sixth place out of twelve teams. Whatley finished with a 91 on Sunday and a total score of 177 for the weekend. The women’s team will host the Fighting Scot Invitational September 7-8 at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth.
