Alum Robin Galloway ‘90 returned to Monmouth to deliver the ninth annual Wiswell-Robeson Lecture, presenting on “Consumer Food Trends, Food Labeling and the Supply Chain”.
“Food packaging has come a long way. Words on packages are very important,” Galloway said, highlighting the power that labels have in influencing consumer choices. With years of experience in the food management industry, she aims to educate people about food labeling and regulation.
Galloway transferred to Monmouth as a sophomore, sharing that “Monmouth welcomed me with open arms”. She graduated in 1990 with a BA in accounting before earning an MBA from Keller Graduate School of Management.
She has held many different positions in the food management industry across the country, from a Vice President role at Morningstar Foods in Dallas, TX, to becoming president of the ice cream division for Dairy Farmers of America. Today, she is Chief Executive Officer of Dr. G’s Ingredients and lives in Athens, Georgia.
Throughout her presentation, Galloway explained what various food labels truly mean as well as the process to take a product from a concept to the grocery store shelf. She closed her lecture by encouraging the audience to pay closer attention when they shop, “I hope you have a new appreciation for looking at packaging when going to the grocery store.”
