Tri Beta, the Biological Honor Society, recently drew students into the spooky season with “The Haunting of LeSuer Scare Trail,” held at the LeSuer Nature Preserve.
Located near Monmouth College’s baseball and soccer fields, the haunted trail led participants through the dense woods for a series of eerie encounters, blending suspense and excitement.
“When Tri Beta was reinstated, we wanted to introduce events that would draw people in and help connect them to biology in fun, memorable ways,” Ethan Main, Tri Beta’s president said. “The LeSuer Nature Preserve was perfect for this kind of experience—it allowed us to get people out into nature and create something new for our campus community.”
The trail, enhanced by fog machines, hidden sound effects, and volunteers in costume, created an atmosphere many attendees found surprisingly intense. “The trail was scarier than I expected,” said one participant. “The atmosphere in the woods at night made it feel real, and it was exciting to see Tri Beta put something like this together. I’ll definitely go again if they do it next year.”
“It was rewarding to see so many students come out and support us,” said Main, who hopes to make this an annual tradition. “The event helped raise awareness about Tri Beta and what we’re trying to do—connect people with biology in ways that go beyond the classroom.”
