The brothers of Zeta Beta Tau (ZBT) brought Powderpuff Football back to campus during the football team’s bye week. ZBT invited teams of six female-identifying students at Monmouth College to have their very own Friday Night Lights, flag football style, for a small team registration fee. Any other student could coach a team, and the games were refereed by the brothers of ZBT. Games began at 6 pm with two 20-minute halves. Each team was given flags and had to assign a quarterback. Games were played with typical flag football rules with the field ending at the 50-yard line.
This year’s winning team was Kappa Kappa Gamma coached by ZBT’s Ethan Panganiban. “I am very proud of the way Kappa was able to battle through adversity and work together to pull out the win. They were down for most of the game, and we were able to create a plan to lead them to victory,” says Panganiban. Kappa was led by team captain Izzy Gimm, accompanied by junior Olivia Riddley, sophomores Miranda Hursey and Reese Hicks, and freshmen Alayna Earle and Lily Fleming. “It was so fun to have an opportunity to get some physical activity and bond with my sisters,” says sophomore Reese Hicks. “A lot of us have played sports previously and it was nice to relive our athletic years.”
Organizations on campus are providing more opportunities for students to be involved by hosting events like this. ZBT is hosting their Olympic Games the following week. All proceeds from flag football went to the Jewish Women International.
