The win didn’t come easy, but the Scots kept it close and pulled away this past Saturday. On October 19, Illinois College traveled to come play on Monmouth’s turf. With an evenly matched first half and a demanding second half, the Scots went home victorious with a 30-15 win.
Devin Lawrence scored first on the day with a 35-yard rush, quickly followed by an extra point from Joey Biel. The Scots’ defense was able to keep the Blueboys out of the endzone on the following drive, but they were still able to put three points on the board with a field goal. After a few more field goals, Devin Lawrence rushed 16 yards for his second touchdown of the first half.
Illinois came out of the half and scored their first touchdown rather quickly. Monmouth responded, sending Henderson Francois on a 9-yard rush for his first touchdown on the day. Joey Biel was able to tally two more field goals in the fourth quarter, closing out the Scots with a 30-15 win.
The Scots fought hard this weekend, and the statistics show that. Clark Gaden led the defense with an astonishing 19 tackles on the day. Other impressive defense efforts came from Drake Dietrich with 9 tackles and Nick Miyler with 7. Brennan White helped lead the offense with his 13 completed passes for 77 yards. Seth Foster, Nate Graham, and Jake Uryasz all found themselves downfield making that possible.
On October 26, the Scots will travel to Cornell College to take on the Rams. This game, ironically, will take place on their homecoming. The game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start. After that, the Scots will travel to face a historically tough University of Chicago squad. The Maroons are currently 4-2 on the season, and the Fighting Scots will look to hand them a pivotal loss on their senior day.
