The men’s and women’s Fighting Scots golf teams have started off the fall season strong, already competing a combined five times. The teams are comprised of eleven men and two women, ranging from freshmen to seniors, coached by Cory Bizarri with assistance from Scott Weber. At the beginning of September, the men’s team competed in the Midwest Region Classic in Galena, Illinois. With five men competing, the team finished fifteenth of nineteen teams to start off their fall season, with junior Ryan Prusak leading the team with a two round tally of 166, leaving him tied for 60th place. Senior Ben Dobberstein followed close behind with a tally of 177, tying for 70th. Junior Max Cook had the best first round score of the team with an 85, one stroke ahead of both Prusak and Dobberstein, but in the second round, Prusak went low with a tally of 80 followed by junior Noah Shields who posted an 82 and Dobberstein with a tally of 83. The women’s golf team started their fall season early in September with the two-day Illinois College Preview in Springfield, Illinois. Freshman Amanda Stevens was in 10th place after the first round with a tally of 89, and on the second day, she shot a 98 to bring her total tally to 187 to finish in 18th. Sophomore Sarah Saddoris ended the first day with a score of 104 and ended the second day with a 109, bringing her total score to a 213 to finish in 28th place. “This year Amanda and I are starting the season off strong,” says Saddoris. “We have been working hard and getting better each and every day, and we are excited to see what happens at our conference tournament in October. The men’s team heads to Iowa City, Iowa on October 4 to compete in the Central Fall Classic, and the women’s golf team will next compete in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on October 9 in Springfield, Illinois.
