The Fighting Scots women’s soccer team saw their 2026 campaign draw to a close on Halloween as the visiting Luther Norse disposed of the Scots 4-0 to claim their first MWC regular season title. The Norse struck in the first and 44th minutes to take a 2-0 lead going into the locker room, then scored two more in the 53rd and 67th minutes to earn the victory.
Luther’s Ansley Schaak earned a brace on the afternoon with goals in the 44th and 67th minutes.
With this result, Monmouth’s tournament hopes came down to the contest between Beloit and Illinois College, in which a Beloit loss or draw meant Monmouth would secure the six seed in the tournament. However, the Buccaneers topped the Lady Blues 1-0, which effectively propelled them into the sixth and final qualifying spot eliminating the Scots from conference tournament contention.
Monmouth ends the season with a record of 8-7 and 4-2 in conference play. The team bids farewell to seven seniors: Lauren DellaValle, Mariah Hobson, Molly Shook, Allison Griffin, Natalie Morrow, and Yoselim Hernandez, all of whom have been with the team since their freshman year. The team is also saying goodbye to Emily Leshin, whose been with the team since her sophomore year.
Luther College will host the semifinal and final rounds of the 2026 MWC men’s and women’s soccer tournaments on Friday and Saturday, November 6th and 7th in Decorah, Iowa.
