Family weekend begins this Friday, Sept. 16 as students welcome visitors to campus for a variety of food, fun, and games.
Many students, like first year Brady Arrenius, are looking forward to the weekend-long celebration. “I am excited to see my family again,” said Arrenius “I have not seen them since I moved from New Mexico a month ago.” Family weekend at Monmouth College is a tradition that allows students to open up their new home to their families.
On Friday, from noon until 10 p.m., the Family Weekend Information Center will be open in the Stockdale lobby. Dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6:30pm that evening. There will also be the Monmouth Farmer’s Market at 122 W. Boston Ave., which will feature fresh produce from the Monmouth Educational Farm and Garden from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., Comedian Juggler Marcus Monroe will entertain in Dahl Chapel to end the evening.
More festivities will begin the following day, Saturday, Sept. 17. The Family Weekend Information Center remains open from 8 am to 10 pm. At 9 am, the Fighting Scots Women’s Tennis team takes on Lake Forest College at the Tennis Stadium. The 20th Annual Legacy Brunch begins at 10 a.m. at the Center for Science and Business, Mellinger Commons. Inflatables, games, kettle corn, and other exciting activities are planned for The Quad from 11 am. to 2 pm. A carnival food campus cookout will also be available at The Quad, from 11:30 am. to 1 pm. The Fighting Scots Football plays against Illinois College on the Bobby Woll Field at April Zorn Memorial Park beginning at 1:00 pm. At halftime, the Monmouth College Marching Band will perform. Following the game, dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Stockdale Center’s main dining room. At 6:30pm, a pre-performance dessert will be available outside the Dahl Chapel. To end the busy day, the Family Weekend Concert will take place in the Dahl Chapel at 7:30pm.
Students can send off their families on Sunday, Sept. 18. From 9:30 am to 1 pm During this time, a buffet brunch will be held in the main dining room of Stockdale Center.
