Get ready for a weekend filled with fun activities. They have Marcus Monroe, a comedian juggler, performing at the Wells Theater on Friday at 7:00 PM.
Then, on Saturday, get ready for the Great Lecture Series in the Hewes Library in the Electronic Classroom. For first-year families, you can attend Supporting Your Student’s Success, a seminar designed to help families “support the transition of first-year students into the college experience at Monmouth” by showing how to get through challenges during the first year. From 11:30 to 1:30, there is a trick dog show, games, balloon artists, face painting, and inflatables in the Quad (if it rains, these will be relocated to the Huff).
Last year, the best part of Family Weekend was the fact that dogs were everywhere. If you’re missing your pet at home, be sure to come visit all the dogs at this event. At around the same time, a cookout will be happening, also in the Quad. Last year, I remember getting kettle corn and stashing it in my room for snacks later, so make sure you head over to see what’s on the menu. It’s also a good opportunity to hang out with friends if your parents couldn’t make it for Family Weekend, so take advantage of all the fun activities. At 1:00, go to the football game, and then dinner with your family in the cafeteria. At 7:00, there is a concert planned in the Dahl Chapel. On the Family Weekend website page, there is a link to watch this concert live if that interests you. Then at 9:00, Antonia and David, a Mentalist Duo, will be performing.
On Sunday morning, brunch will be served in the caf. Last year, they had a chocolate fountain. Hopefully they have one again this year because it was amazing. It’s also the perfect way to say goodbye to your family and have some time to chat before they leave campus. Even if your parents aren’t able to make it to Family Weekend, the events planned are going to be fun and you can always hang out with your friends during the game and the cookout. Plus, why not support the performers by going to the Family Weekend concert?
Hopefully this swayed you into wanting to go to some of the events. At the very least, you should all be going to the cookout – free food is a must. Have fun!
