Dollars for dogs, cash for cats "A different breed of election"

Kappa Kappa Gamma hosted a week-long fundraising event in support of Western Illinois Animal Rescue (WIAR). The event, set up as an “election,” invited participants to vote for their favorite rescue animal candidates: Bandit, the dog representative, and Mingus, the cat representative. The interactive set-up was inspired by the timing of the current presidential election, making the event even more relevant.
Hannah McGhee, Kappa’s philanthropy director, spearheaded the initiative, and the response was overwhelming. “It was really great,” McGhee said. “We received so much generosity from everyone involved.”
While Mingus collected $107.75, Bandit raised a $122.63, bringing the grand total to $226.38. “Whether you donated a dollar or twenty-five dollars, it’s all going to such a good place,” said McGhee. “That money doesn’t just buy food; it ensures the animals are cared for in every way until they find their forever homes.”
Founded in 2000, WIAR is a 100% “no kill” organization. Located at 300 W Harlem Ave Suite 5, Monmouth, IL, their facility is open Tuesday through Friday 11:00 to 4:00. Monday and Saturday by appointment only.
