Earlier this month, Monmouth College seniors received an email regarding Commencement Weekend which is to be held May 15-16, 2021. A full website will be available later this spring, but some key events and deadlines have already been established which will need to be addressed.
Applications for Degree were to be completed last semester. If this has not been done, contact the registrar’s office immediately. There are a number of items required by April 23 including the Senior Class Gift and Honor Walk Video, a photo in your cap and gowns and other fun photos for the senior slide show.
Seniors are required to be prepared for anything regarding Commencement, in person or online. Students are recommended to purchase a cap and gown from the Herff Jones Website which will put students back $52. The cap and gown need to be bought by April 20 before additional fees are incurred. Monmouth College will provide sashes and tassels for graduates.
Furthermore, the email also included an update on Commencement Weekend Events which will be both in-person and virtual. Senior, Kirsten Menke says, “I am excited we are getting an in person option.” A new event this year will be Wallace Walk set up on Wallace Hall Plaza “where [students] will walk across the stage to receive [their] diploma from President Wyatt”.
Seniors have had the opportunity to voice their opinion regarding Commencement activities. In the first week of March there was a “senior round table held by Scots Senate [that] had a number of suggestions and opinions share with the Commencement planning committee. That information was digested for COVID friendly feasibility and was incorporated as much as possible into events” says Dean Orgozalek. Scots Senate President, Abierre Minor echoes Dean Orgozalek’s cautious approach stating that we need to be mindful of where the state is at regarding COVID-19 numbers and proceed from there. Further questions about the final plans for Commencement weekend will be answered in the Senior Meeting held at 7pm on Thursday March 25th via zoom as the Commencement planning Committee will share additional and updated details at this meeting. Watch our Twitter and next edition for future updates.
