“We do science and we’re pretty cool,” said first year Psychology professor Hannah Bradshaw.
In her first few months as a professor at Monmouth College, Bradshaw has noticed how involved her students are in and outside of the classroom.
“I recently learned about a tradition the football players do where they dye or shave weird patterns in their facial hair before the big Knox game. I was not prepared,” said Bradshaw
While navigating a busy schedule Bradshaw noted how helpful everyone has been. “The psychology department is very collaborative. Professor Coclasure and Stinnett have been especially helpful; I’m glad to be in such a supportive department,” Bradshaw stated.
Monmouth College senior Ashley Jones is choosing a path in psychology to be able to help others.
“With this degree, I will be able to start a career as a child therapist and help the children in need of help mentally and emotionally,” said Jones.
During her years at Monmouth, Jones feels Joan Wertz, Professor and Chair of Psychology, and Marnie Steach have helped her navigate her way through school.
“I wouldn’t be where I am without them today,” Jones stated.
For Jones’ senior research she focused on the topic, “The Difference Between Athletes and Non-Athletes in Terms of Self-Esteem".
Jones chose this topic because as an athlete she knows there can be struggles with self-esteem and self-confidence. “I thought it would be interesting learning about the difference between athletes and non-athletes in that way,” Jones stated.
