Monmouth College’s defense delivered a historic performance Saturday, setting a school record with three interceptions returned for touchdowns in a 72-0 win over Beloit College, the program’s largest margin of victory in 33 years.
The Fighting Scots (6-1, 6-0 Midwest Conference) wasted no time asserting themselves, forcing a fumble on Beloit’s second offensive play to set up their first score. From that moment, the Monmouth defense dictated the pace of the game, forcing turnovers, applying relentless pressure, and turning defense into offense. Armani Carrillo, Johnny York, and Ethan James each returned interceptions for touchdowns, all in the first half, as the Scots built a commanding 55-0 lead by halftime.

Monmouth’s defense was impenetrable, holding Beloit to just 3 first downs and a minimal 24 yards. The Buccaneers passing game never found rhythm, thanks to a fierce pass rush and solid coverage. The Scots finished with four interceptions, two sacks, and multiple tackles for loss. Gavin Carpenter and Damien Brown each notched a sack, while Carpenter added 2.5 tackles for loss to lead the defensive front. Parker Byers led all defenders with five tackles, while Jeremiah Hardnett and Damien Brown contributed key stops to keep Beloit pinned deep in its own territory for most of the afternoon.
This performance marked the third straight week Monmouth’s defense has set a school record, underscoring its emergence as one of the most dominant units in the Midwest Conference. The Scots have now forced double-digit turnovers in their last three games and are outscoring opponents 202-7 over that span.
With momentum on their side, Monmouth will look to continue their defensive dominance when they travel to face the University of Chicago on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in a key conference matchup that could further cement their place atop the standings.
