The men’s and women’s cross-country teams ran their first full-distance race of the season on Sept. 14 at the Les Duke Invitational in Grinnell, Iowa. “I would say that there were plenty of good things that happened, but it showed us where we need to work to find improvement,” said Coach Jon Welty.
Throughout the season, Coach Welty is looking to improve on something they are already strong at, but they want to get better. Last year, the coach said the teams had success with running as a team and pack but wants to narrow the gap between runners.
“Arika Hoffman and Griffin Morrill both led the teams this weekend, they didn’t let the race dictate how they ran, instead, they controlled the race,” said Welty. Hoffman placed eighth at the meet with a 24:35.6. Morrill placed third in the men’s race with a 26:58.2. The teams go to Peoria to race at the Bradley Intercollegiate meet on Friday, September 20.
