Hewes Library currently has an art exhibit by the Contemporary Art Center of Peoria’s Artist Member Group Exhibition. These works will be up until March 6th. The exhibit consists mostly of 2D pieces adorned on the gallery walls with a few ceramic pieces on pedestals.
A senior art major, David Perez, said his favorite piece, which was made of coffee grounds, “was unique, unlike the other pieces that one decided to use a different kind of material. The way they used coffee to use tones of shading really helped out.” While the piece didn’t receive an award, it drew the senior exhibition class’s attention when they took a trip to the gallery.
At the reception awards, third place went to Georgia a mixed media portrait on wood by Tanya Bayer, Peace Now, an explosion made with charcoal on wood, by Janet Keturi received second place, and Billie Howd’s Veiled Stillness, a bust of a woman, earned first place. Sundown by Armstrong Farrell received an honorable mention while “Best of Show” was awarded to Cathy Enberg’s Frogs and Cats. Monmouth College staff chose Two Spout, Two Spout by Chuck Flagg for their award.
