Monmouth College Chaplain John Huxtable offers students an opportunity to engage in open discussions through his weekly program: “Chaplain Chats.” Located in the Hewes Library at 3pm on Tuesdays, students can ask questions and discuss topics ranging from religion and philosophy to everyday life.
“It’s essentially an open table for anybody who wants to talk or has questions,” Huxtable said. “Whether it’s about religious questions, philosophy or life in general I'm here to listen.” His role extends to organizing worship services and other campus activities. Alongside Chaplain Chats, Huxtable maintains an open-door policy in his office. Students can drop in anytime to talk about anything personal or guidance.
“Students can come in whenever they need to, or they can set up appointments.” Huxtable’s goal is to create an inclusive environment where students feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and concerns. “I try to make it as open as possible. I’ve talked about everything from sports to life struggles.” As the academic year progresses, Huxtable hopes more students will take advantage of the opportunity to engage in his conversations and build connections.
