Welcome to the weekend! Or not, since our paper is released on Mondays now. But you may be thinking of your options for next weekend. Most people sleep all day and eat dinner at the caf (if you’re up in time). Others watch movies with their friends in their rooms. But there’s a lot to do on campus. I have some suggestions to liven up your weekend plans.
First, have a photoshoot! I have photoshoots with my friends all the time. It’s a great way to boost confidence and make your friends feel good about themselves. You can play music on a speaker, wear fancy clothes or do each other’s makeup. Then all you have to do is either set up your phone with a timer or use a camera! And this campus is lovely during spring so try going outside to take pictures. You can hang out in the quad, walk to a park or even take pictures in your dorm’s lounge. Grier’s lounge is especially cute.
Another idea is to have a huge movie night, complete with popcorn and pajamas. Invite a bunch of friends over for a party and watch something funny. Hulu has I, Tonya which was an amazing movie about Tonya Harding. It’s sad but also funny. You could marathon Shrill on Hulu as well; I thought it was a great series. Brooklyn 99, The Office, Parks and Rec, and Friends are all options. If you don’t have Hulu, that’s okay! What DVDs do you or your friends have? I personally have the Care Bears movies, and those are always great to watch.
If you have a car, you could take a drive to Moline or the Quad Cities to see some new places. I know sometimes it can feel like you’re trapped if you don’t have a car, so try taking the shuttle up to Galesburg on Sundays to shop. The Walgreens here is super overpriced so save your money and buy your shampoo at Walmart.
Lastly, you could study. I left this option until the end because if we’re being honest, it’s the last thing on everyone’s list of fun activities for the weekend. But you can make studying fun if you use the right incentives. Try making a Kahoot with your friends in your classes and hanging out in a lounge to compete, or have a bet with someone on who knows the most vocab from your textbooks.
