The fifth annual BaconFest will be held in the Monmouth City square. For the past four years, the Bacon Fest has staged a venue for bacon fanatics all around the Warren County area.
The Bacon event is hosted by Smithfield Foods who is not only one of the biggest pork processing plants in the United States but also employs 1,500 workers in the Warren County area.
The first annual BaconFest was held on friday, August 7, 2014. The main goal of the BaconFest is not only to celebrate the pork industry and its employees, but to also give unique vendors the opportunity to showcase their creative bacon centered dishes and creations.
The fifth annual BaconFest will hold host to several different and fun types of entertainment. This years BaconFest will hold host to over a dozen non-food booths providing information, BaconFest spirit wear, fun activities for families, live music, and a very competitive bacon eating competition.
Participants of the bacon eating competition will be required to sign a competition and compliance waiver with a set of rules to follow. The winner of this challenging competition will become the owner of a booklet that will grant them a free one-year supply of bacon.
Being moved back from its usual August date, Amy Patterson, the executive director of the Monmouth Chamber of Commerce, stated to the Review Atlas “We decided to move it back a little further distance from both the Taste of Galesburg and the Car Show here in Monmouth,”. “And of course, we did not want to compete with the Prime Beef Festival” Patterson stated.
To participate in this year BaconFest, head down to the Monmouth City Square on saturday, September 28th from 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
