It’s nearly time for spring break, everyone! Get ready for the break by doing a few things before the day you leave. My recommendations are to do laundry, clean up the room (including under your bed) and get all your water bottles, garbage, and wrappers into the trash, fold clothes, and separate what you want to go home with you and what stays here on campus. In addition, it’s never too early to plan out what you need to bring home other than clothing, like medicine, makeup, and textbooks, if any. But let’s imagine you’ve done all that and now you’re onto the planning stage for your break.
Like most college students, I don’t have a whole lot of money to be throwing around for the break, but I still manage to go out and have fun. How? Plan cheaper versions of your ideal adventures. For example, if I want to see a movie, I plan to go during the matinee that costs about half of a regular ticket and I go to the dollar store for candy beforehand. If you want to go out for food, try looking around for something cheaper but still fun. If you’re 21 or over, you might want to go out for drinks with a friend, but a wine night at your place might be cheaper and provide more room for conversation. If you’re taking a trip somewhere, you’re probably ready to spend, but if you’re having a “staycation” at home, it can feel like you’re out of options on how to make the week feel like a getaway. The easiest way to relax and save your bank account is simply to look around for free or discounted events. The mall sounds like a good destination, but oftentimes people end up spending more than they anticipated. A zoo, dog park, or museum is a fun way to spend a day without needing to break out the big bucks. And restaurants can be expensive, so why not spend some time cooking with family or friends?
There are ways to make spring break fun even on a budget, but I think a splurge is deserved every once in a while. What do you plan to do for spring break? Let us know on Twitter!
