During their meet at Augustana College, Monmouth College’s Maddie Boley threw a 49.06m in discus. Her throw places her first place in the nation. Boley, a senior on the track team, is on her way to completing a hall of fame career. She currently sits in the top 10 in school history for shot put, discus, and javelin.
“I’m excited. I think Saturday was a really good day, and it helps that there was some good national level competition out there... and it’s really encouraging that I got something big out there this early on,” said Boley.
For those that don’t know, it’s very special for Boley to throw this well early on. It means her body has been able to push through the tough training she endures throughout the week. But the job’s not finished. “I’m going to do my best to keep things the same. I try to go in with a clear head, and I think after this weekend I’ve learned more about myself in the ring and when I move into it,” said Boley.
Being number one in the nation draws a lot of attention in the track world and a lot of people are going to be constantly trying to catch Boley. But Boley completely embraces that competition.
“I like it because it’s like a chase, and I like that super highly competitive aspect to it because I want to be at the top, but I know other people want to as well so keeping that high standard is important.”
The track team had success in multiple areas at their latest track meet. Janius Taylor won the 200m dash and set a meet record at 22.01 seconds. The men’s 4x400 relay (Davon Patterson, Janius Taylor, Kani Carson, and Adrian Outlaw) earned first place with a time of three minutes and 24 seconds. Tashawn Ruffin won the triple jump with a jump of 13.32m.
Jillian Toth won the hammer throw with 53.77m, which also places her in the top 10 in the nation. Maddie Rusk took first place in the long jump with a jump of 5.21m. Paige Luntsford won the 5k with a time of 19 minutes and 58 seconds.
