Calling him a “one man kicking band,” D3football.com has named Monmouth’s Joey Biel (Spokane, Wash./Northwest Christian) to their national Team of the Week for his special team’s play.
Just hours after Biel earned the Midwest Conference Special Teams Performer of the Week award, the website dedicated to NCAA Division III football bestowed their weekly honor upon the Scot’s senior kicker. Already a prolific kicker and punter, Biel added another dimension to his résumé in Saturday’s 27-14 win at Cornell. With the Scots leading 10-7 in the third quarter, the senior kicker recovered his own onside kick at the Monmouth 46. Biel averaged over 56 yards per kick on his five other kickoffs, and he tacked on two field goals and three PATs to score nine of the Scots total points. He also averaged 44-yards per punt on six punts totaling 264 yards.
A business major, Biel is the son of Rick and Bethany Biel.
