It is that time of year to get in the holiday spirit. These movies are the way to do that, sort of. All of these films are set at Christmas time, but do not revolve around the holiday.
1. Die Hard (1988)
Die Hard follows Bruce Willis as John McClane, a New York Police Officer, who is visiting his wife in Los Angeles. A group of terrorists takes over his wife’s office building and holds everyone hostage. McClane becomes the only person able to stop them, fight back against the terrorists, and save his wife.
2. Gremlins (1984)
Billy Peltzer is a young man who receives a small creature, a Mogwai, as a Christmas gift. When breaking the rules to care for it, he finds his town overrun by mischievous and destructive gremlins that multiply rapidly. Billy uses all of his efforts to stop the creatures before they cause even more chaos.
3. Iron Man 3 (2013)
Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., faces a new threat from a terrorist figure known as The Mandarin. Stark struggles with newfound anxiety and is forced to rely on his own resourcefulness when his home, suits, and relationships are destroyed by a bombing. He must work to uncover the truth behind the attacks, while protecting the people closest to him and rediscovering his identity.
4. Edward Scissorhands (1990)
Edward Scissorhands tells the story of a young man created and abandoned by an inventor before he was completed. This left Edward alone and with scissors in place of hands. A woman from a nearby town finds him and takes him in. Edward tries to adjust to his new everyday life while the community reacts to his presence with curiosity and suspicion.
5. Little Women (2019)
Little Women follows the March sisters, Jo, Meg, Beth, and Amy, and takes place during the Civil War. Each sister works towards different goals, but all prioritize their family. The film moves between their childhood and adulthood. The March sisters’ choices, ambitions, and relations shape the paths they take and their combined future.
