A hot-shooting Millikin Big Blue offense proved to be too much for the Fighting Scots men’s soccer team Wednesday evening as the visitors walked away from Peacock Park with a 6-1 win over the Scots. With this result, Monmouth remains winless this year, their overall record dipping to 0-15.
The Big Blue found the back of the net in the 15th and 37th minutes, and when chaos in the box forced an own goal, Millikin led Monmouth 3-0 after 45 minutes.
Freshman Mubaraq Basheer slotted a shot into the lower corner in the 47th minute, earning his third goal of the season. This hope was short lived as Millikin tacked on three more goals in the 69th and 86th minutes to seal their victory. Millikin’s Matthew Hart earned a brace with goals in the 15th and 86th minutes.
After going on the road for the annual Highway 34 derby with Knox on October 24, the Fighting Scots will finish the season by playing for pride against Luther College on Halloween. The Norse are currently ranked 4th in the NCAA’s Region IX and will prove to be a tough test for the Scots to finish the season.
Kickoff is slated for 11 a.m. on Halloween at Peacock Park, and the women’s game follows at 1:30 p.m.
