After dropping the first game of the doubleheader Fighting Scots baseball bounced back with a 12-5 win over Aurora University last Sat.
Monmouth was down 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning when they snapped out of their scoreless slump. Sean Davis scored the first run of the day on an error by the Spartan’s shortstop. Anthony Ruggles drove in two more off a single for a 3-1 lead. The offensive explosion continued as senior outfielder Harry Sanchez crushed a three run homer to extend the lead to five.
The offense quieted down until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Scots went yard once again. This time it was sophomore Matt Temaner who drove the ball out of the park for the two run score.
Aurora earned back the two-runs with a homer by A.J. Gill to cut the deficit back to five.
In the sixth, Sanchez picked up his third RBI of the day on a single that scored Jake Starkey from second. The final runs of the day came for Monmouth in the seventh inning. Brett Fordyce drove in the tenth of the run of the game. Temaner smacked in two more runs this time on a single for runs eleven and twelve of the day.
Starting pitcher Conner Sharp went seven innings surrendering two earned runs on nine hits.
With the win the Scots moved to 10-5 on the season. This weekend they travel to Jacksonville, IL for a doubleheader with Illinois College.
