Bacon Fest champion, a Fighting Scot

MONMOUTH — Tyler Houston of Knoxville was a walk-on Saturday for the 2019 Bacon Eating Contest at BaconFest in downtown Monmouth. While he didn’t exactly prepare for the challenge of consuming three pounds of cooked bacon in speedy fashion, he figured his chances were good.

“The Scots beat Norbert today, so I knew it was a good day,” the Monmouth College senior said after clearing his plate first to claim the trophy and a year’s supply of free bacon from Smithfield Foods. “They said BaconFest and I said, ‘sure.’ They said Bacon Eating Contest and I said, ‘sure!’”

Houston was in hog heaven after the contest and had no idea just how quickly he pigged out. His time was not immediately available.
