The Association for Student Activity Programming, ASAP, held events throughout the past few weeks to engage with the Monmouth College Community and give students ways to have fun or relieve stress during the school season.
ASAP had a booth based around stress relief and self care, offering kits to make your own stress relief balls on October 22nd. As students stopped by and grabbed their own free stress ball making items and self care items, a board was provided where you could write anything that was stressing you out and be able to ‘leave your stress behind.’
On Monday, October 26, ASAP held a Halloween bingo night to get people into the holiday and provide a fun event involving prizes. “College is stressful and expensive so we aim to host events that are free and fun,” Rotierra Smith, themed event chair, said. By hosting bingo nights, it can give students things to do to get a break from homework and classes. “ASAP hosts a lot of its events to give the student body something to do outside of academics.”
Alongside the stress relief booth, another booth on November 2nd gave away free fidgets, squishies and mental health resources to reduce stress. They want to give students ways to manage stress and anxiety, especially as the semester gets closer to finals.
ASAP planned transportation to Peoria, IL and gave free tickets to students to support The Fighting Scots Basketball Team versus Bradley on November 2nd. “Another main reason for our events is to promote and support community engagement and school spirit,” Rotierra Smith said. ASAP wants to give students chances to engage with the community of Monmouth College while being able to take a small break from academics. This event also allowed students to support their sports team if they weren’t able to travel on their own or pay for their own ticket.
